TERREMOTO DE 7,4 GRADOS SACUDE LAS ISLAS GEORGIAS EN EL ATLANTICO SUR

Un terremoto de magnitud 7,4 se produjo este viernes en el sur del océano Atlántico, con un epicentro ubicado a 316 kilómetros de las islas Georgias que albergan la estación británica de investigación en el Antártico, según el Servicio Geológico de Estados Unidos (USGS).



No se emitió de momento ninguna alerta de tsunami.

El sismo se produjo a las 05H32 locales (07H32 GMT), a una profundidad de 10 kilómetros, al sureste de las islas Georgia del Sur y Sandwich del Sur, bajo administración británica.


Epicentro sismo 7,4 grados en islas Georgias del Sur
En estas islas, que están situadas a unos 1.000 kilómetros al este de las islas Malvinas, se hallan dos estaciones británicas de estudio en el Antártico.

Unas 32 personas trabajan en estas estaciones, según su sitio en internet.
